Upon leaving our office, gauze will be present in the areas of implant placement. Change the gauze every 30 to 60 minutes as needed, using extra gauze included in your care package. Once the bleeding has stopped, discontinue use of gauze.
The following are the most common prescriptions given for this procedure:
Although a prescription for strong pain medication will be given, it is not advised that you get it filled. Heavier pain medication may cause unpleasant side effects, especially nausea, vomiting and disorientation. Using 200 mg ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB and generic) is Dr. Shroyer’s first choice in helping with discomfort. Recommended dosage is 600 mg (3 pills) every four hours.
Keeping the area(s) clean is very important. Using a soft toothbrush with toothpaste will aid the healing process. Avoid brushing vigorously in the implant areas.
Most implant areas have non-dissolving sutures which will be removed at a follow-up appointment (7-10 days) after the procedure.
