Sedation/Anesthesia will be administered by giving drugs into a vein to achieve the desired level of relaxation. You will feel calm, relaxed, drowsy, and have the feeling that nothing will bother you. You will be completely unaware of the surgery. You will also receive a local anesthetic.
A) No food or drink (including water) should be taken within eight (8) hours of the appointment time.
B) The Augmentin (antibiotic) and Peridex (mouth rinse) will be started the evening before your scheduled surgery. The Augmentin will be taken with food, and you will use the Peridex before bedtime. If you have any allergies to any antibiotics you will only receive the Peridex.
C) The morning of the surgery, you WILL NOT take the Augmentin. You will take three (3) Ibuprofen (Advil) (200 mg each) one and one half (1-1/2) hours prior to surgery time with a small amount of water only. ( NO ASPIRIN or TYLENOL) You will also use the Peridex mouth rinse before you leave home. You will be instructed, after the surgery, when to resume the Augmentin.
D) Short sleeve clothing should be worn for easy access to the upper arm.
E) The patient must be accompanied by a guardian or responsible adult to drive them home. The driver must remain at the office during the procedure. The patient will also need a responsible person at home until the sedation has subsided. Any sedated patient will Not be allowed to leave the office unescorted.
ANY PATIENT ACCEPTING SEDATION OR ANESTHESIA MUST SPECIFICALLY AGREE:
CONSIDERABLE TIME AND PREPARATION HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR SURGERY. IF UNABLE TO KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENT, KINDLY GIVE 48 HOURS NOTICE.
